The oud: A precious wood
Oud (or agarwood) is a fragrant resin that forms naturally in the heartwood of certain Aquilaria trees infected by a fungus. This transformation can take decades. The result is a wood with deep, warm, amber, and mystical notes, used for thousands of years in sacred ceremonies in the Middle East and Asia.
Its complex fragrance evokes precious leather, noble wood, warm amber, and a subtly sweet animalic note. An ingredient so rare that it is sometimes more expensive than gold.
